Porto
A beautiful city with a great historical connection to Britain - the port trade built lasting ties between the two, and you can still feel it in the lodges across the river. Worth exploring both banks: the market and bakeries on the Porto side, the taverns and the sunset garden over in Gaia. And prepare for some serious hill climbs - every good route here goes uphill at some point.

Food-first and no-nonsense, in a beautiful historic building with a rich past life as a pharmacy.
A tiny spot with a small menu - reserve in advance and ask what's good.
A beautiful little tavern with truly stunning food. Go for the heartier end of the menu - the pork and the veal. You may have to wait in line; it's worth it.
A historic bakery opposite the Bolhão market - coffee and pastries in a properly old-world interior.
The sunset spot just south of the Dom Luís I bridge, looking back over the whole city. Beautiful - but you absolutely have to get there early, because everyone has the same idea.
Take your time to browse - there is everything you can imagine. You can easily come here for breakfast or lunch.
Recommendations I've been given but haven't made it to yet.
