Douro Valley

A truly magnificent part of the world, and it deserves proper exploration. Get the train here from Porto and sit on the right side for the views. Bring good walking shoes and look into hiring an e-bike - avoid the river cruises.

Hotels
Hotels: Quinta São José do Barrilário· Armamar

Modern and newly built on a small quinta, with five-star service to match. The panoramic views from the restaurant and the infinity pool are absolutely stunning.

Hotels: The Vine House - Quinta de São Luiz· Tabuaço

A working Kopke vineyard you get to stay in. The port tasting is more of a full vineyard tour - worth taking the time to walk up the hills - and there's a stunning swimming pool sat right in the middle of the vines.

Restaurants
Restaurants: Veladouro· Pinhão

As authentic as it comes - a locals' place tucked in a Pinhão backstreet, very casual and perfect for either lunch or dinner.
