A great city with a deep alternative scene - good social spaces in the day and something for everyone after dark. The underground venues are the draw for me: atmospheric rooms in tunnels and vaults where the budget goes on the lineup and the sound rather than the fit-out.

Been to both branches and both are excellent - coffee and pastries at the one on the waterfront, and a full English at the one by Temple Meads another morning. Whichever side of town you wake up on, there's one worth walking to.
Saw Dosem here - a no-frills club that puts the budget where it matters: the lineup and the sound.
Underground vaults right by Temple Meads - got to see the legendary John Digweed here, supported by Red Freya. The tunnels make for a properly atmospheric room; exactly where that kind of set belongs.
